Advice to Parents and Carers

Supporting Students For Home Learning

Parent and carer involvement in Learning from Home is critical to its success.

The Supporting your Child in Learning from Home document contains the key considerations in supporting your child when learning from home including:

  • Messaging teachers via the Sentral Portal
  • Accessing Google Classroom and joining a class
  • Setting up a learning space
  • Maintaining a routine
  • Child wellbeing

Learning from Home Without Technology

​Home Learning Packages are available for students who do not have access to technology at home to complete online learning. Please contact the school on (02) 4367 7353 during office hours to request a home learning package. 

Our Expectations

It is expected that all students at Erina High School are safe and responsible when working online:

Lesson Delivery via Google Classroom

Teachers deliver lesson content to students via Google Classroom through the domain. The Classroom app is available for iOS and Android.

Classroom address:

This may include: 

  • Announcements about work to be completed
  • Assignments/assessments with specific due dates
  • Resources to support student learning such as worksheets, video clips, informatiive websites, another online learning platform etc.
  • Quizzes to check student understanding of concepts
  • Marked work with written feedback
  • Comment on assignments/announcements to gather better understanding of learning outcomes.

    Parent to Teacher Communication

    Students and Parents have the ability to message teachers via the Sentral Student & Parent Portal.

    How to Send a Message to Your Child's Teacher

    To send a message to one of your child’s teachers, login to the parent portal , select Messages from the portal home page, select New Message and follow the prompts.

    Teacher to Class or Student Communication

    Teachers have the ability to receive and reply to messages from students and parents and send messages to students via Sentral. 

    Sanity Savers

    Sanity Savers is a document created by Erina High School teachers that may give you some ideas to keep students busy and engaged in their learning.

    Parent responsibilities during remote learning

    Provide support for your children by:

    • establishing routines and expectations
    • defining a space for your child to work in
    • monitoring communications from teachers
    • beginning and ending each day with a check-in
    • taking an active role in helping your children process their learning
    • encouraging physical activity and/or exercise
    • checking in with your child regularly to help them manage stress
    • monitoring how much time your child is spending online
    • keeping your children social, but set rules around their social media interactions.
