Organisation for Y7-11 for Weeks 4-7

Web Banner

Following the updated health restrictions from the NSW government the stay at home orders will continue for the next 4 weeks (week 4-7). This means that Year 7-11 will remain under the ‘stay at home orders’ and we can only provide minimal supervision for students at school to complete the online learning programs.

To support our students and families we have made the decision to cancel all Term 3 formal assessment tasks for years 7-11.

Erina High School has made the commitment to move to face to face online lessons for classes in Year 7 -11, to provide additional support for students for this prolonged period of absence from school. Teachers have committed to delivering the following face to face opportunities for students in weeks 4-7:

Key Learning Areas (Maths, Science, HSIE and English) in Year 7-10 – Teachers of these classes will hold four face to face learning experiences per timetable cycle (two weeks)

All other subject areas 7-10 – All other subject areas will deliver two face to face online lessons per timetable cycle (two weeks) . Again, this will be communicated via each individual classes Google Classroom.

Year 11 – Students in Year 11 will have two face to face lessons in week 4, then from week 5-7 teachers will make themselves available for each timetabled lesson.

The lessons provided may be partial lessons to compliment the work set on Google Classroom. Teachers will deliver these lessons on the Zoom or Google Meet platforms and will communicate this through the individual classes Google Classroom. Teachers will be able to clarify content, respond to student feedback or questions, provide detail and instruction on learning activities, and facilitate classroom discussions.

Lessons will take place following the students normal school timetable and the classroom teacher will notify students which lessons during the fortnight will take place face to face.

It is expected that all students attend the face to face lessons as it will provide a forum where any questions or concerns can be resolved. If your student does not have the correct technology to access these lessons, then please contact the school so we can assist you with setting your student up with the correct hardware.

For lessons to operate effectively student compliance is essential. We will release some guidelines to ensure that face to face meetings run smoothly and that all students know the expectations of online learning.

We look forward to supporting your students with the best educational opportunities for the next 4 weeks and look forward to welcoming our students back to school when lockdown is lifted.

Clarification of Yr 11 Assessment Tasks

Further to our update earlier regarding the organisation for Year 7-11 for the rest of term, I would like to clarify questions that some Year 11 students may have about assessment tasks.

We have made the decision to cancel all formal assessment tasks that sit outside the Yearly Examination period. Year 11 will still be expected to complete their Yearly Examinations at the end of Term 3.

There were several non-examination tasks due to be completed in weeks 4-7, these are the assessments that have been cancelled. Tasks that are already underway should still be completed. No further tasks shall be set for this term outside the examination period. Take care and be safe,

Ben Joyce
