Literacy and Numeracy
With the NAPLAN tests are conducted early in Term 1. There are many ways to help your child to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.
While all faculties at EHS have ensured that literacy and numeracy activities are included in each and every program, it is the little 'extra' activities that can make a significant difference to your child's final results.
The following activities will enhance your child's understanding of literacy and numeracy in the 'real' world and will benefit them in the external exams:
- Read with your child. Find out what novels they are reading as part of their English course and ask them questions,
- Ask your child to help read the bus or train timetable,
- Allow you child to measure the ingredients needed for the evening dinner,
- Ask your child to read words on signs,
- Have your child quickly add the cost of a variety of goods being purchased at the shops.
