Studying School VET in NSW

In NSW, Vocational Education and Training (VET) studies are recognised as an important part of secondary education that assist students to develop practical skills for the workplace and further education and training.

The training teaches skills and knowledge needed in particular occupations and workplaces, and normally includes some workplace experience that puts these into practice.

In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:

  • Hospitality (Kitchen Operations)
  • Construction
  • Retail

VET at Erina High

Our Facilities

VET classes have access to:

  • 1 x Large Commercial Kitchen 
  • 1 x Catering Kitchen in the Hall
  • 1 x Construction Compound 
  • Computer Labs

Equipment Required for VET lessons

All practical Hospitality lessons require to students to wear the full Hospitality uniform (cost approximately $65).

All practical Construction lessons require students to wear leather enclosed shoes as outlined by the Work Health and Safety guidelines the Department of Education must adhere to

In theory lessons all students are provided work booklets for each cluster. All students must have all necessary writing equipment including pen, calculator and a ruler.

Work Experience (Mandatory)

Students must complete a minimum of 70 hours work placement in a related industry workplace (35 hours in each of Years 11 and 12).

White Card WorkCover

Students completing VET Construction must obtain a White Card through WorkCover before they can enter a work site. Erina High provides a one day seminar for students to complete the course and receive their WorkCover White Card. 

Please note there is a cost to this seminar to obtain your White Card. If you are not currently enrolled in a VET course and wish to receive a White Card, please contact Mr. A McCubbin to ensure you are added to the roll for the next White Card session.
