Y12 Update – Organisation for Week 4 -10

Week 4-5 Online Learning

The HSC Trial exams have been rescheduled to Week 7-8. There will be an increase in the frequency of virtual lessons for Y12 students throughout week 4-5. Students will follow their entire timetable. Staff will be expected to deliver virtual lessons for every timetabled lesson, including period As. This is to ensure that staff and students are doing everything possible to prepare for the HSC Trials and ultimately the HSC. These lessons will vary in length depending on the content covered or activity/exercise being implemented.

  • Y12 online for participating in virtual lessons for every timetabled lesson starting Monday August 2nd.
  • These arrangements will be in place for all of Week 4 and 5.

Return to EHS- Week 6

We are excited to be able to have our Y12 EHS students returning to the school site from Monday 16th August (Week 6). The structure of this will has been designed to ensure that students will have 2 hours workshops for all of their subject areas and access to the specialised environments for HSC Major Works. Student timetables will not be used as it is based on 2 week period. Students will be allocated a 2 hour workshop based on the subject lines that operate in the school. There will be 2 sessions each day for students to engage with in the allocated time.

We encourage students to access school resources and supports when they do not have a scheduled workshop or they may wish to leave school. Our HSC teachers will be onsite all week, however will also be managing many other online classes, so students will need to negotiate time to be supervised in the specialised environments. There has also been an allocated day for Major Works or Performance Subjects. There will not be a workshop for SLR or Work Studies.

Information from the Premier’s update yesterday, references Rapid Antigen Testing for students. We are yet to receive the specific instructions and expectations relating to this expectation. This element will require compliance from all students and is a requirement of Erina High School in having our Y12 student back onsite. Once these processes have been clearly defined, we will publish this information.

HSC Trial Exams

The Y12 HSC Trial Exams have been postponed for 2 weeks and will be delivered from Monday 23rd August to Friday 3rd September (Week 7-8). This will enable teachers to prepare our students for their trials with the increased virtual lessons in Week 4 and 5 and the ‘onsite’ workshops during Week 6.  The previously published timetable will be followed on the amended dates. The exams will have strict protocols involved that will be published prior to the exams.

  • HSC Trial Exams POSTPONED by 2 weeks to Week 7 and 8.
  • COVID Safe Procedures will be detailed and published prior to the exams.

Week 9-10: Timetabled lessons

These weeks will be used to distribute results from the trial exams and provide essential feedback for students to reflect on their performance, prior to their HSC. Staff will also use this time to continue to revise and prepare students for the HSC exams.

  • Classes will be as ‘normal’ timetabled lessons for weeks 9 and 10.

Week 10 Celebrations and Organisation

The traditional week of celebrations for our Y12 students has been postponed. This includes the 2021 Graduation Ceremony. The current restrictions prevent delivering such an event and given the significance and importance to the school community, we would prefer to plan this ceremony in term 4 when our ability to include parents and community are permitted onsite. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate organisation and planning when it is known.
  • Week 10 classes as normal- following timetable.
  • Week of celebration and activities to celebrate Y12s achievements has been postponed.
  • Y12 Graduation Ceremony has been postponed and will not be this term.

Student Supports

Students are reminded of the numerous supports that can be accessed during this difficult time. It is so important for all students to manage their health and wellbeing, as it must be the highest priority. The EHS Staff are sympathetic to the situation and are doing everything possible to support you all.

  • Learning content - Classroom teachers: Student can send messages through your virtual classrooms for specific content and feedback. With the increase in virtual lessons being conducted in Week 4-5, students will have increased access to their teachers and engage in classroom discussions. During Week 6, staff can be available for face to face discussions and direction in preparing for the trial exams.
  • Total Wellbeing - Mrs Ruming / Mr Mallon: Y12 are blessed to have one of the best Year Advisors in the school. She is there for everything. The Y12 Google classroom is managed by Mrs Ruming and an effective way to make check in with anything at all. Mr Mallon is a phone call away. Call the school and he will call you as soon as possible.
  • Mental Health / Wellbeing - School Counsellors ( Julia / Ryan).
  • Academic Enrichment / Wellbeing - Ms Bayliss: Coordinating the Academic Enrichment Program, and is able to provide study tips, revision strategies and other wellbeing strategies, including stress management and organisation. Ms Bayliss can be accessed through her Google Classroom.
  • Mathematics/Science Tutoring – Ms Taylor: One on one or small group tutoring for Maths and Science. These referrals can be made through the relevant subject areas classroom teacher and then Ms Taylor will make contact to organise the tutoring sessions.
  • Post School Planning and Options - Ms Pursehouse: Advice to accessing a variety of post school options, including University, TAFE, scholarships, Early Entry, employment and other student aspirations.
